Cahaba Riverkeeper will be on the river again for its fourth Swim Guide summer water quality and  bacteriological testing program along the Cahaba River and its tributaries beginning May 5 and continuing until Labor Day week.

Testing will take place each Thursday on the Cahaba at 14 sites from Leeds to Helena that a popular for swimming and boat launching. In addition to Old Overton, Grants Mill, Highway 280 bridge, Looney Mill Road, Bains Bridge, and Helena’s Ampitheater Park, new locations include Shades Creek at Jemison Park, Living River, the Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge, Moon River, and the Canoe the Cahaba boat launch. Sites on the Little Cahaba River and Shades Creek have also been added.

Easy-to-understand test results will be reported each week via this website (see our Swim Guide page), social and local media, and the Waterkeeper Alliance’s Swim Guide, a free app for cell phone and computer. Citizens will also be able to select to receive special texts regarding the results.
